Laser Cholesteatoma Course

This hands-on surgical training course is designed to provide delegates who have experience of cholesteatoma surgery to enhance their surgery with a fibre-guided laser.

All delegates have the opportunity to undertake surgical dissections with state-of-the-art otological drills, micro-dissection instruments, microscopes and lasers.

All delegates receive tuition on general laser safety, safe use of the laser in the temporal bone, laser dissection techniques, dissection to identify and safeguard the facial nerve, and dissection techniques to facilitate optimal use of the laser in cholesteatoma surgery.

Delegates will learn to safely remove cholesteatoma with the laser. They will learn how to remove cholesteatoma when necessary through joint use of an otological mirror and the laser. They will also learn how to remove disease from the intact ossicular chain, whilst preserving the ossicles even when they are invested in cholesteatoma.

This course is unique, and offers delegates an opportunity to learn evidence-based modern techniques which maximise cholesteatoma clearance and hearing preservation when treating this challenging disease.

This course is aimed at consultants and otological fellows. Two way dialogue is an important part of the course.

After two decades in the business, I did not expect to learn much from a course. However, the teaching presented a series of new ideas and concepts which we were able to openly question, discuss and trial. I will be using these in my practice and therefore I can highly recommend this course even for experienced surgeon

BLA – Cutting Edge Laryngology 2019

Dear Colleagues, bla – cutting edge laryngology

Laryngology continues to grow as the most exciting branch of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery. There is a universal realisation that the longer living of people all over the planet must be accompanied by healthier living. Best possible speaking, eating and breathing are so fundamental to the aspirations of people everywhere, that there has never been a greater demand for laryngologists. This recognition is reflected too in our being some of the earliest adopters of the most advanced products of medical technology and clinical pathway engineering. So, we do not have to talk up the idea that this conference is “Cutting Edge”, since our members and embedded industrial partners are already intrinsically so.

To advance the cause of those with breathing problems, we present the finest breakthrough science, techniques and stunning new paradigms in airway stenosis. For those with speech problems, we offer in-office pathways to rapidly return people to the lives they wish to lead, as well as an in-depth look at the latest developments in spasmodic dysphonia care. For those with swallowing problems, we offer technology and working practices that can restore them to society. Add to this the latest in laryngeal robotics and AI and we feel we have the “Edgiest” questions all covered.

We continually strive to keep the education, mentorship and friendship

The Cutting Edge conference has always delivered a driver for an international laryngology community. You, the attendees and members, are those who are changing the world, and we look forward to doing we what we can in Bonnie Edinburgh to support you and your patients on that journey.

    Best Wishes

    Lucian Sulica

“We all know the larynx is the most enigmatic, fascinating and funkiest organ in the body.

“There are lots of conferences that cover laryngeal disorders and treatments in various ways, but we in the UK look at things differently.  Cutting Edge Laryngology showcases the most up-to-date advances in understanding, diagnosing and managing these conditions, and how to use the very best of new knowledge and technology to get our patients back to their work and lives – breathing, talking and swallowing – as best as we possibly can.

Never less than stimulating and often fun, the Cutting Edge conferences have already inspired hundreds of surgeons, speech pathologists, physicians, scientists and students to question conventional understanding and learn about the best of the ‘now’ and that which is just on the horizon.”

Fiber Guided Lasers in Laryngology – Hands-On Workshop

    Dear Colleagues,

Among phonosurgical procedures in patients with various lesions of the larynx, fiber-guided laser surgery has reached a high level and is nowadays even considered as first choice treatment for some benign mass lesions.

Our hands-on workshop will offer presentations on different types of lasers from cutting fiber-routed lasers through to the modern photoangiolytic lasers. On demonstrating the workings of laser devices, we can bring to the surface individual needs during an intervention in awake out-patient cases. Lectures are given by clinical experts which will include demonstrations on how various laser wavelengths effect tissue as well as video presentations of typical cases. All participants will have the opportunity to learn techniques ‘hands-on’ with laser glass fibers (fiber optics) and train on laser settings to maximise benefit during application in the office and general anaesthesia.

With experience in excess of 10 years in daily clinical environments using fiber-guided lasers, we would like to share our knowledge with participants during this course demonstrating on how to perform these operations. A special focus will be on a live patient case presentation with narration of tips & tricks for optimum results and pointing out pitfalls while learning from complications.

We hope this workshop will improve our attendees’ basic skills and knowledge for laser applications, while adapting these techniques for use in the office environment as well as general anaesthesia setting.

Our team welcomes you to Hamburg and look forward to seeing you at our hands-on workshop.
